Willow Hall Academy converts its educational direction and philosophy to the one room school house concept.  WHA continues to focus on the student with average or above average IQ and those who learn differently, have dyslexia, or simply want a smaller classroom size allowing more interaction with a teacher. It was a remarkable year for our students in terms of growth, not only in their Stanford Achievement scores, but also in their social skills, maturity and behavior.

Our class of 10 students ranged from 3rd to 9th grade.  It was exciting to observe the interaction of this diverse class progress through the year.  The bond between students became very strong as they worked together.  Each gained confidence through the sense of  belonging to the community.
This single classroom came about quite by chance, but it has certainly been a rewarding experience for the school and our students.  The proof of success was when our students requested to remain as a class next year with everyone together.  They will be together and our other classes will be structured in the one room school concept.
Willow Hall is accredited by the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools (SACS).  At the end of the year our students take the Stanford Achievement Test. The results were rewarding.  Every student’s score improved more than in previous years.  This can only be attributed to this class – the “one room school house”.
At the end of the school year we researched one room school houses and interviewed people who attended them.  A common thread ran through all the research, a true sense of community, peer tutoring and the “Golden Rule” as the guiding principle.
Once again we are reminded that history repeats itself and the old ways are often actually better than the new concepts.  Willow Hall Academy is ready to step into the future with the very new “old” concept of the one room school house for our students.
