What is TEDxYouth@GreaterNashville?

In the spirit of “ideas worth spreading,” TED has created TEDx. TEDx is a program of local, self-organized events that bring people together to share a TED-like experience. In our second year of offering the TEDxYouth@GreaterNashville program, TEDx hopes to recruit a wide range of speakers to appeal to a variety of interests – mainly targeting high school and college audiences. The event will create a good feel for the other TEDx programs, but the individual event will be self-organized.

On November 19, 2011 — Universal Children’s Day — TEDx organizers across the globe will host events for (and by) young people. These events will vary widely in size, format and theme, but they will share a common vision: inspiring curiosity, igniting new ideas, empowering young leaders. TEDxYouthDay is a series of TEDx events happening over a 24-hour period all around the world.

TEDxYouth@GreaterNashville: IMPACT 2 will create a forum for speakers to spotlight ‘Ideas Worth Spreading” in the area of “Creativity and Innovation in Education.”

What is the format of the day?

The program will take place at Montgomery Bell Academy for a series of presenters: youth from high schools and colleges, and adults representing youth-serving organizations. We wish to attract a wide audience of Nashville youth and community to participate in discussion and exchange of exciting ideas that may one day change our world.

Who is behind this?

TEDxNashville YouthDay is a collaborative effort between members of:

Food for Thought (Hume-Fogg)

Tennessee State University

Montgomery Bell Academy

Belmont University

Vanderbilt University

Metro Nashville Public Schools

Metro Nashville Private Schools

Oasis Center

TEDxNashville

Tennessee Campus Compact

All of our individual partners from these organizations are passionate about engaging Nashville’s high school and college students in a creative and positive forum, as well as creating fellowship between students from a variety of social, ethnic and economic backgrounds.

TEDxYouth@GreaterNashville will inspire and empower the youth and community of Greater Nashville through an engagement network that spotlights the community’s own ‘Ideas Worth Spreading.” We seek to create an unprecedented network of educational resources in service of our youth and spotlight Nashville as a leader in this global event.

How do youth, schools, and youth organizations get involved?

The TEDxYouth@GreaterNashville committee is asking schools and youth organizations to send their most innovative youth leaders or adult leaders from youth programs.  The speakers for sessions will come from colleges, programs, schools or youth organizations. The event will also be open for attendance to young people and community members from Greater Nashville and beyond.
