St. Cecilia Academy was founded in 1860 by the Congregation of Dominican Sisters of St. Cecilia and is the oldest continually operating high school in Nashville. The all-girls Catholic college preparatory school provides a rigorous liberal arts academic program in a Christ-centered environment. St. Cecilia Academy inherits a tradition dating back to St. Dominic, who founded the Dominican Order in 1216 for the purpose of study, prayer, community, and service. The school is inspired by its namesake, St. Cecilia, patroness of musicians and muse of poets. This rich legacy is ever ancient and ever new - as relevant today as it was 800 years ago, and interwoven into every aspect of St. Cecilia's academic and extracurricular life. The St. Cecilia educational philosophy, rooted in the centuries-old Dominican tradition, develops women who are inquisitive and courageous. Immersed in an environment that is at once intimate and demanding, the St. Cecilia student becomes eager to discover why God made her and what she is meant to do.
